DESE District Review

DESE District Review

Dear Parents & Guardians,

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has selected Holbrook to participate in district review during the 2022–23 school year. These routine reviews take place every few years. The purpose of the process is to provide formative and actionable feedback on district practices, enabling district leaders to reflect on progress and strengthen staff and student performance. To meet this goal, DESE has contracted with a thir party, the American Institutes for Research® (AIR®), to assess the district on its current practices as they relate to the governance and administrative or student-centered systems of the Massachusetts District Standards.

The district’s participation in this review will result in a culminating report that will provide information about the strengths and challenges of current practices. Making these determinations requires on-site data collection, including interviews and focus groups and classroom observations in addition to the collection and review of documents. If your child is selected for a student focus group, a consent form will be sent home through his or her school. There will also be a link posted to the district website and in school newsletters for parents and guardians to click on and join a virtual-open family call on Thursday, February 9th at 6 pm. This virtual call is voluntary, but open to all parents and guardians. The AIR team will be in Holbrook beginning on February 6th.  As always, thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Julie Hamilton

Superintendent
